What Did Micah Know About Depression?

Fight Depression with the Bible (NKJV)

Micah 7:7-8How do these verses help me fight depression?
Micah talks about how his family and friends were against him. Then he said, “Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; when I fall, I will arise.”

Notice he says “when I fall,” not “if I fall.” It is guaranteed that you will fall in life. Many times. Maybe over and over for the same thing.

However, what does it say next? “When I fall, I will arise.” That’s what you when you fail – you arise.

Failure doesn’t come from falling down. Failure comes from not getting back up. As my pastor says, “Falling is not fatal.” “Down is not my destiny.”

“When I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me. “

When you sit in the darkness of depression, what do you do? Hide in bed all day? Bury yourself in a romance novel? Drown your sorrow in alcohol?

Try letting God bring light to your emotions. If you are too depressed to read your Bible, find a free audio app and listen to it. Play Christian music in the background as you go about your day. Music has been proven by science to help depression.

If your prayers are minimal or absent, try reading some Psalms out loud for prayers. See my posts about praying the Psalms if you want specifics on how to do this.
“I will bear the indignation of the Lord because I have sinned against Him until He pleads my case and executes justice for me. He will bring me forth to the light; I will see His righteousness.”

Sometimes our actions are what caused our problems that caused our depression. Maybe it was bad decisions. Maybe it was a sin.

If it was a sin, you need to KNOW that God promises to forgive. He promises to plead your case and give you justice and bring you forth to light and righteousness. God will make it all better.

Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Whatever your mistakes, God will work it for good. If Jonah had obeyed in the first place, we wouldn’t have that awesome book of Jonah, right? God made his mistake work together for good.

If you made bad decisions that weren’t sins, like you should have taken that other job, KNOW that Jesus is our redeemer. He will redeem our mistakes as well as our sin and work them together for good. Trust Him.

You may be depressed and stuck in your problems now, but your future will be better. He promises He will bring you light and righteousness. And He keeps his promises.

In summary: When you fall, get back up.

When you sit in darkness, let the Lord be your light.

When you sin, trust Him for your forgiveness.
